Meet Our Two New CMGA Board Members: Lisa and Devon

Lisa Gidney from Broadview, Saskatchewan

Lisa Gidney is the owner of Diamond G Goats near Broadview, Saskatchewan, where she raises a small herd of Boer goats, including commercial and registered animals. After returning to the goat industry three years ago, she has focused on improving her herd through the use of registered genetics and practical breeding strategies.

With a strong background in livestock production—including cattle and horses in feedlot, cow-calf, pasture, and purebred operations—Lisa brings valuable hands-on experience in breeding, nutrition, and herd health management. In her own herd, she is committed to developing hardy, productive animals, with a focus on growth performance and sustainable parasite management.

Lisa is actively involved in the industry and currently serves on the board of the Saskatchewan Goat Breeders Association, while also supporting the re-establishment of a provincial goat association in Manitoba. She is passionate about strengthening connections among producers and promoting the goat industry through shows and events.

Now serving as a Director and Secretary of the Canadian Meat Goat Association, Lisa brings a practical, on-farm perspective from Western Canada. She is committed to supporting the growth of the industry through collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing, while continuing to learn and contribute to the success of fellow producers.

Devon Pickering from Three Hills, Alberta

Devon Pickering is co-owner, alongside his wife Ashley, of Diamond Anchor D Boer Goats in central Alberta. Together, they raise a herd of Boer goats, primarily focusing on purebred animals, with a small number of commercial goats for freezer market.

Devon grew up on a cattle farm near Castor, Alberta, where his family raised commercial Angus and Limousin cattle. He was actively involved in 4-H from a young age, developing skills in record keeping, animal showing, and herd health management. At 18, he participated in an international agricultural exchange program in New Zealand, where he worked on a diverse operation that included sheep, cattle, and thoroughbred horses.

After many years in cattle production, Devon and his family transitioned into goats, a decision driven by both their farm setup and a growing interest in the sector. Since then, they have quickly shifted their focus toward purebred Boer goats, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and herd improvement.

Actively engaged in the industry, Devon values the strong sense of community among producers and the collaborative nature of the goat sector. As a Director at Large of the Canadian Meat Goat Association, he brings a practical perspective as a newer producer and is committed to contributing to the continued development and growth of the industry in Canada.
