Un mois plus tard, nous achetions une premi\u00e8re ch\u00e8vre Nubienne et un bouc pur-sang Boer, c`\u00e9tait en 1997.\u00a0 Notre but \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque \u00e9tait simplement d\u2019\u00e9lever des \u00ab ch\u00e8vres \u00bb.<\/p><p>Pour faire conna\u00eetre la viande caprine, tr\u00e8s m\u00e9connue \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, nous avons rapidement particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des march\u00e9s publics dans lesquels nous proposions de d\u00e9guster notre viande de chevreau et ce pendant une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es.\u00a0 Notre exp\u00e9rience s\u2019est m\u00eame \u00e9tendue \u00e0 une \u00e9mission de cuisine t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9e, accueillant \u00e0 la ferme, le chef cuisinier du Ch\u00e2teau Frontenac, Jean Soulard et son \u00e9quipe de tournage. L\u2019\u00e9mission mettant en vedette les grillades de chevreau fut diffus\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs reprises.<\/p><p>Avec le temps, par manque d\u2019espace, les ch\u00e8vres crois\u00e9es ont laiss\u00e9 leur place aux pursang et notre int\u00e9r\u00eat s\u2019est orient\u00e9 de plus en plus vers la qualit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique et le statut sanitaire \u00e9lev\u00e9s du troupeau.<\/p><p>C\u2019est pourquoi, lorsque le programme d\u2019assainissement de l\u2019AEC s\u2019est mis en branle au Qu\u00e9bec en 2003, nous avons imm\u00e9diatement inscrit notre troupeau. Ce dernier a un statut \u00e0 faible pr\u00e9valence depuis 2004. Ensuite, en 2008, afin d\u2019avoir acc\u00e8s \u00e0 de la nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, nous avons int\u00e9gr\u00e9 le Programme volontaire d\u2019\u00e9radication \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de la tremblante et avons obtenu la certification en 2013. Depuis, nous avons pu importer 8 boucs Am\u00e9ricains qui ont grandement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la diversit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du cheptel Canadien. En 2017, nous avons \u00e9galement pris la d\u00e9cision de tester annuellement notre troupeau pour la paratuberculose.<\/p><p>En 1999, le Regroupement des \u00e9leveurs de ch\u00e8vres de boucherie du Qu\u00e9bec (RECBQ) a instaur\u00e9 les jugements de ch\u00e8vres Boer au Qu\u00e9bec et c\u2019est devenu pour nous une source de plaisir, en plus de nous donner l\u2019occasion d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la conformation de nos animaux. Le fait que notre troupeau soit assez homog\u00e8ne fait que le choix est difficile.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Y a-t-il quelque chose dont vous \u00eates particuli\u00e8rement fier dans votre exploitation ?<\/strong><\/p><p>Nous sommes fi\u00e8res de la qualit\u00e9 de troupeau que nous avons r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 b\u00e2tir, tant au niveau de la conformation qu\u2019au niveau des performances d\u2019\u00e9levage, mais aussi de la relation de confiance que nous avons \u00e9tablie au fil du temps avec nos clients et les autres \u00e9leveurs.<\/p><p><strong>Y a-t-il autre chose que vous aimeriez partager ?<\/strong><\/p><p>Les associations de ch\u00e8vres de boucherie font \u00e9galement partie de notre histoire. En effet, en 1998, Evelyne avec G\u00e9rald B\u00e9rub\u00e9 et Mario Cloutier ont mont\u00e9 les bases de ce qui est aujourd\u2019hui le RECBQ.
