CMGA joins Livestock Alliance Partnership

Guelph, ON, January 28, 2016 –Together, Ontario Goat (OG), the Veal Farmers of Ontario (VFO) and the Canadian Meat Goat Association (CMGA) are pleased to announce that the CMGA has formally joined the Livestock Alliance partnership- a strategic alliance of goat and veal producer organizations with its office based out of Guelph, Ontario.

“The CMGA is so pleased to be part of the Livestock Alliance as it allows our organization to utilize our limited resources to deliver greater value back to our members all across Canada” stated Stuart Chutter, CMGA President. “On behalf of CMGA, I would like to thank both the Veal Farmers of Ontario and Ontario Goat for having the vision to build a partnership where we can all be successful and work together for the betterment of our industries and our respective producers” he added.

Chutter, a meat goat producer from Saskatchewan, suggests that collaboration and cooperation in the goat industry is a priority. He goes on to say that “there is so much opportunity for the goat industry to improve and develop. With this new partnership agreement, the CMGA is setting itself up with the right framework and access to resources to accomplish our organization’s goals as we look to the future”.

The Livestock Alliance (formally known as the Ontario Livestock Alliance) was initially formed in 2010 between VFO and OG with the goal of sharing human, office and organizational resources in order to bring greater efficiencies and cost savings to both organizations that ultimately benefits their respective members and stakeholders. Since then, VFO and OG have added administrative functions for both the Canadian Veal Association and the Centre of Excellence for Goat Research and Innovation.

A hallmark of the Livestock Alliance partnership is that each organization maintains their board’s separate and independent governance structure, decision making and finances. “The staff and office infrastructure are the common elements” noted Executive Director Jennifer Haley. “The partnership is proof that we can do more for our collective members by pooling our resources” added Haley. Since its inception, the Livestock Alliance has delivered on its promise of superior member service and lower organizational costs to members as a result of cost-sharing.

CMGA is now in the process of transitioning its files to the Livestock Alliance office and determining board driven priorities as the CMGA heads into its Annual General Meeting on April 9th, 2016 in Ancaster, Ontario. Moving forward, as part of the partnership, CMGA members will now have Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm EST access to the Livestock Alliance office and staff members for their enquiries. Bilingual access will be limited in the interim as the partnership looks to strengthen its bilingual member service offerings.

“Strategically, partnering with the CMGA is an important next step for OG as we move forward as an organization and look to the future” stated OG President Anton Slingerland. “We want to expand our projects and services to the meat goat sector since there are so many growth opportunities but with resources limited this partnership is a perfect fit that helps both of our organizations succeed” added Slingerland.

“VFO is proud to be the facilitators of the Livestock Alliance partnership” stated VFO Chair Brian Keunen. “The VFO knows first-hand the importance of having resources such specialized and professional staff who are passionate about serving our industry and we have seen the evolution of our own organization as a result of strategic alignment with like-minded groups like OG and now CMGA” Keunen added.
